Inauguration of IE students chapter

The Institute of Engineers (India) established its Student’s Chapter in Bharti Vidyapeeth COE, For Women on 31st of August, 2010. The Institution of Engineers (India) is recognized as a Scientific & Industrial Research Organization by the Department of Scientific & Industrial Research, Ministry of Science & Technology, and Government of
India & also approved by the Central Board of Direct Taxes, Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance , & notified under section 35(I)(II) of the Income Tax Act.

Essentially the IEI is an esteemed institution in the technical society. Such an association was possible, thanks to the efforts taken by principal Prof.D.S.Bilgi. The Bhartiyans unanimously welcomed the opening of such a platform in their institution. The dignitaries who graced the occasion were Prof. D. B. Dhone, Hon. Secretary of IEI (pune local center), Prof. G.S. Mundada, Dr. Vijay Mehta and Mr. Ganbote. Each of the members threw light upon the necessity of an institution like IEI in any college. And by this association the students would be the whole and sole benefit-seekers.

Prof. D. B. Dhone has been working as Training & Placement Officer, Bharati Vidyapeeth’s JNIOT, Pune with a teaching experience of 19 Years. He has played a pivotal role in this program, thanks to his long-time association with Bharti. Prof. Dhone highlighted various facets of the IEI.Besides being a technical society par excellence the IEI also provides annual scholarships to the needy students. The most awarded achievement of the IEI is the associated membership of institute of engineers (AMI).AMI has its own AICTE recognized part-time course, which trains the economically backward students for a meager fee, inclusive of study material. Such a course is based upon the IIT standards. Faculties from renowned institutions impart application-oriented knowledge to the trainees. Coaching is also provided for GATE and other equivalent exams at the pune local center (PLC). Utilizing the opportunity he called upon the students and teachers of Bharti Vidyapeeth to approach IE for their academic needs.

Further Prof. GS Mundada, member IE lauded the college annual magazine, Oyster. He narrated the paradigm of the pearl, how it transformed its identity by the company it kept. The droplet that lost its identity in the lake formed a pearl on the lotus. Same applies to us, we are judged by the company we keep. Furthermore he stated that foundation of a platform such as the IEI, opens the doors to establishment of many noteworthy societies such as the IEEE, computer society etc.

Another personality to speak on the occasion was Mr. Ganbote. He seemed to the students a very practical persona. Instead of delivering the pros and cons of academic education; he quoted proximate illustrations such as those depicted in the movie ‘3 idiots’. How practical and conceptual know-how held an upper hand over memorizing theory. He quoted Mrs. Leela Punawala, MD Alfa Laval, the first woman engineer from pune. How amidst all hindrances she emerged a winner. Mr. Ganbote urged the students to emulate her example.

Dr. Vijay Mehta who happens to be from the medical background was the most intriguing personality to speak. Switching to the engineering field from an entirely distinct one had never been a cake-walk for him. However by his dedication he rendered the unimaginable, unthinkable deed true! He runs a company called ‘Khyati’, which manufactures electronic goods. Its focus in the long run has been ‘Consumer satisfaction’ by providing them good value for their money. Customer satisfaction is at its best ,when one thought on the lines of the user. He stressed upon the need to emerge as all-rounders instead of mere graduates. Scientists formulate novel ideas, but it is up to the engineers to implement them. Hence quality and not quantity made a whole lot of difference!

Last but not the least, the most awaited speaker on stage was Principal Prof. Bilgi. The students always await a chance to gain access to his gems of knowledge. The IEI student’s chapter has been a unanimous effort of Prof. Bilgi and Mr. Bhilegaonkar, Director of the IEI program. Only because of their pain-staking efforts could this long cherished be realized. Besides the IEI, he elaborated various issues pertaining national interest such as the student exchange programs betwixt India and Pakistan. The 21st century, better known as the ‘knowledge era’.

Innovation is the fuel for development. It is the buzz word in the industry today. Even though students are provided the platform to present their innovative skills via the project work, projects presented each time give an account of only cut and paste. Noboby really puts their gray cells to task. And this is the cause to grieve for. And that is the reason why employability has drastically reduced from 25% to a mere 9% .As a consequence the Japanese and Chinese workforce outshine their Indian counter parts. On the concluding note he advised the students to ‘Work smarter and not harder’, to raise the Indian standard at par with the developed nations.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Ms.Chaitali Kurkure who thanked the dignitaries on and off the Dias for their participation in making the event a grand success. The students by whose arduous efforts the program could be efficiently organized. On the ending note she assured Dr. Vijay Mehta of emerging as successful all-rounders and follow his success mantra.
